Boat trip Nautical Safari in the Perito Moreno Glacier

Boarding takes place at the port on the Bay «Bajo de las sombras», about 7 miles from Glacier Overlook. The tour consists of a boat ride in the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, this ride will allow you to see the ice from the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Coming to the southern tip of the Icebergs Channel, the boat is located at a safe distance from the wall of the glacier, walking in its entirety and allowing sighting occurring landslides.
This tour offers the chance to see a different perspective of the stunning Perito Moreno glacier walls and landslides over the waters of Lake Rico.
Duration: one hour.  Can be taken all year long.

Minitrekking: Walk on the Glacier Perito Moreno

The tour begins at the port on the Bay «Bajo de las Sombras» – about 7 km before Glacier lookout – where you embark to cross the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, reaching the shore after about 20 minutes boat ride with view of the south wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier. After landing you access the refuge where the guides organize groups beginning then a walk along the lake about 20 minutes to the glacier. At the edge of the ice the guides fit crampons to hikers, who receive instructions on how to travel on the ice. The tour on the glacier continues for more or less one hour and fifty minutes. During the course of it we can appreciate a variety of ice formations and crevasses, seracs, drains, small lagoons.
The hike is moderate. The ice surface over which you walk is irregular, but firm and safe. Passengers receive explanations about the flora, fauna and general glaciology the region as well as the particular phenomenon of rupture of the glacier.
At the end of the ride, passengers come back to the shelter through the lush Magellanic forest, where visitors eat lunch watching a beautiful view.
After the lunch they return to the port, where a bus is waiting to take them up to the glacier and walkways, where they will stay for an hour. Then undertake the return to El Calafate.
DURATION: Full day. Can be taken from September to April. Not available in winter months.
