Walk by the Perito Moreno

Journey to the Center Perito Moreno Glacier

The big Ice operates from mid-September until the end of April.

WHAT TO BRING

Minitrekking in Perito Moreno Glacier

 The minitrekking is from early August until the end of May.

The tour begins at the «Bajo de las Sombras» port about 6 km. Mirador before the glacier, where you embark to cross Lake Rico, reaching the southwestern coast after about 20 minutes of sailing against the south wall of P. Moreno glacier.

After landing you enter the refuge where the guides organize groups each consist of up to 20 people. Then begins a walk along the lake shore about 20 minutes to the glacier. At the edge of the ice the guides put the crampons to participants, who receive instructions on how they should move on the ice. The route on the glacier takes about 2 hours and during the course of it you can appreciate a variety of ice formations such as cracks, seracs, drains, small lagoons, etc.

The hike is moderate. The ice surface over which you walk is irregular, but firm and safe. explanations about the flora, fauna, and general glaciology of the region as well as the particular phenomenon that occurs in P. Moreno glacier and eventually produce its rupture will be received. At the end of the walk, we return to the shelter through the exuberant Magellanic forest.

Walk by the Chaltén

Most of these tours do not require any previous experience in mountain activities. You can visit lookouts with spectacular panoramic views using little time and effort.

Laguna Capri
Description: Beautiful trek from El Chalten to a viewpoint on a blue water lagoon surrounded by native forest which is accessed in less than two hours. From here you appreciate a fantastic view of the Fitz Roy massif.

Itinerary: The head of the trail starts at the north end of town, at the end of Avenida San Martin. During the first hour is somewhat steep slope -in half hour access to a veranda with a panoramic view of the river valley of laps to enter the Diving stream valley towards the Mount Fitz Roy. The ñires begin to be more and more numerous around the trail and about an hour and a half walk on the path signal shows the fork to the Laguna Capri (left) and towards the Fitz Roy (right). From the lagoon you will have a unique view of the Fitz Roy and the peaks.

NOTE: If you have little time or this is the only walk you plan to make, worth walking an additional 15 minutes from the bifurcation mentioned above toward the Fitz Roy, to access a viewpoint on a rock, with a sign which allows interpreting the landscape presented in front of us, where the glacier Piedras Blancas is also appreciated.
